Finding The Best Load Boards For Your Business
Not every trucking company can handle every load, of course. You’re limited by geography, equipment, time, and more. And not all load boards provide the features that align with your trucking business. Here are just a few questions to ask when evaluating load boards:
1. How does the board handle trip mileage?
Every load board will provide basic detail on every load: contact information, origin, destination, deadline, and trip mileage. But some load boards list mileage from dock to dock, while others count from ZIP code to ZIP code. There’s a big difference there; a 240-mile trip, city-to-city, may actually be 280 miles dock to dock.
If you bill for 240 miles, you’ll lose money. It’s a good idea to double-check dock locations and calculate mileage on your own. Even better, save some time by finding a load board with dock-to-dock trip counts.
2. What are the filtering options for loads?
The right job for you is buried in a lot of data. Load boards guide you to the freight you can take with filtering options. They’ll all let you filter jobs by location (both starting and ending), equipment (dry van, reefer, flatbed, etc.), and delivery deadline. Often, you need more.
Maybe you’re looking for the best load boards for hot shot jobs, with trucks ready to move. You need a load board that offers filtering for expedited freight.
